Blue Abstract Art for Decorating Your Walls

Blue, the most glorious of colors. It makes up the oceans and sky, yet aside from those, blue rarely occurs in nature. Across many cultures, it was the last color to be named and documented. The definition of the word blue according to the dictionary:
“1. The hue of that portion of the visible spectrum lying between green and indigo, evoked in the human observer by radiant energy with wavelengths of approximately 420 to 490 nanometers; any of a group of colors that may vary in lightness and saturation, whose hue is that of a clear daytime sky; one of the additive or light primaries; one of the psychological primary hues.”

Our only reference even in the definition, is the sky. Blue water is just the reflection of the sky. This hue is rarely found elsewhere.

We are drawn to blue because….it is stable. When you add black or white to blue it remains blue. It is the sky reflecting onto water. Water being our most important resource. Water is our life force when we strip away the frills. Blue is trust. When someone is reliable, we say they are ‘true blue’.

“The deeper the blue becomes, the more strongly it calls man towards the infinite, awakening in him a desire for the pure and, finally, for the supernatural… The brighter it becomes, the more it loses its sound, until it turns into silent stillness and becomes white.”
-Wassily Kandinsky

“All That Shows” Abstract art print. Colors: indigo, agate blue, prussian blue, and sienna.

Blue was difficult to produce as a color before we had more manufacturing technology, so it was expensive and a color associated with divinity since it was so rare. Which is why it was the chosen color for depictions of the Virgin Mary.

“Blue has no dimensions, it is beyond dimensions, whereas the other colours are not….All colours arouse specific associative ideas, psychologically material or tangible, while blue suggests at most the sea and sky, and they, after all, are in actual, visible nature what is most abstract.”

Blue is not only America’s favorite color but it is a favorite across the world. It is primary. Foundational.
It is known to be the color of peace. Blue is thought to be indicative of calmness, integrity, and trustworthiness. Tranquility. Maybe I’m drawn to it since my life is chaotic with noise.

You can never go wrong with adding a bit of blue to your home.
