I will be the first to admit, butterflies are not my usual style. However, I have three daughters, and they have a lot of requests. And then, one thing led to another and my studio was filled butterfly collages. Or perhaps it is not that odd. We have decided upon some prairie restoration on our farm, which involves planting a lot of native wild flowers. Turns out native flowers attract butterflies. The population is certainly thriving on our little prairie.
I started out with sheets of poly coated paper I painted with swirls of alcohol ink. Then cut the sheets up into shapes. I constructed these little collage style butterflies from all of my shapes and began creating groups and patterns based on sizes and color schemes.
They are whimsical and child-like. Perfect for kids room decor, which was my intent.
I made Most of the “Flutterbye” collection available as single prints, large patterned prints, and also as throw pillows. You can find other printed home goods with this artwork at Fine Art America .
