Despite our April blizzard currently raging outside, the season’s are turning and it is Spring!! AKA smoothie season! Ok, any season can be smoothie season, but I find the warmer months are just nicer for such a cold food, plus there is more fresh fruit available in season.
I have a new palm tree in my living room, so I’m going tropical. After the preschool pick-up, I whipped up a kiwi banana protein smoothie for the toddler lunch.

Kiwi Banana Protein Smoothie

  • 2 kiwis (peeled)
  • 1 banana
  • 2 servings protein of choice
  • 10 oz water/milk/pineapple juice

For protein, preferably vanilla or plain. I used vanilla sugar free whey powder, but a cup of plain Greek yogurt is also great and makes the smoothie servings a little bigger.

Place ingredients in the blender and whip on high for 30 seconds. I actually like using a wide mouth mason jar and an immersion stick blender.

Now, make it travel or toddler friendly! Get a Luumi silicone glass cover and straw. It fits over most glassware and instantly turns your drinking glass or mason jar into a travel cup. The stretchy silicone makes it versatile, and the flexibility of the material makes it storable just about anywhere.

mason jar coverIt can fit over beer glasses, standard 16 oz jars, and even wide mouthed jars. Unless you drink out of champagne flutes or fishbowls, it will generally fit most of your drink ware.

While I have as many sippie cups as the next person, thick substances like smoothies, clog the spout so I prefer straws. The silicone cup covers are a nice transition piece for kids growing out of toddler cups, but still prone to spilling.

The silicone lids are also nice for adults too. Turning my glass into a travel cup is convenient. Or just using a lid and straw for when busy kids are around me as well. Drinking a piƱa colada on a Friday night with a squirmy six month old in my lap can be a challenge. Plus, those flying Nerf balls from the older kids really clear a table. (Does my house sound chaotic?)
