One thing I feel sad about in regards to breaking my ankle this year was carrying and wearing my youngest son. He is a snugglepuss and I felt terrible that he was relegated to a playpen for much of my healing.
I am now delighted to say, despite needing a lot more physical therapy and being quite stiff, I am now walk normal enough to wear my baby boy again.
With two of our kids still being too little to let walk everywhere, we still need to utilize our stroller and baby carriers quite a bit. I’ll never forget going to the farmer’s market last year wearing a newborn on my front, a toddler on my back, and pushing a double stroller with two more of my kids. Yeah, I got some looks, haha. And lots of smiles!!
We are squeezing as much out of summer as we can right now. The kids want to get up to shenannigans and I need to be able to keep up.

With our current youngest being 12 months now, we use structured baby carriers over anything else. However, we have the new Ergobaby Omni 360 now and it can carry a newborn!
Where do I begin?
The first things I noticed right away are the extra padding around the lower back, and the snap down pad in the front for small infants or forward facing. The new Omni 360 also has a removable storage compartment.
This structured carrier has support tabs under baby’s bottom and you decide on which setting to adjust the tabs based on your baby’s age and size. You can also set the seat width tabs to a wider setting for inward facing and a narrower setting for outward facing. The narrow setting still offers plenty of support to be safe for baby’s hips.
The head and neck support area also can snap down to accommodate a younger age range. The manual lets you know which snaps and velcro tabs to use for the settings.

I have to admit, I really like the head support pad. My 12 month old tends to let his head flop back when he falls asleep.
With all the adjustable new features, you can use the Ergobaby Omni 360 with a newborn WITHOUT an insert. Basically, this is the only carrier you truly need.
Another unique new feature is the ability to crisscross the back straps. Depending on your body type, this can allow for better support.
Usually, if your back is sore and tired right away, it is a sigh you are wearing the carrier too low. The ability to crisscross the straps can help place baby higher up on a petite person. Or maybe you just prefer it that way.
As always, make sure to wear baby high enough for you monitor his airway condition. Baby’s face should be uncovered and his neck should be supported if under four months.
Since I am still recovering from my ankle injury, I feel too unstable wearing my son on my back so I still do a front carry.
I really, really, like the adjustable seat width. Not only does it make it more comfortable to adjust for your kid’s bottom, but it just seems more secure and stable since the extra fabric creates a pouch for their bottom. It makes it easier to get that perfect “M” frog leg position.
Not to mention, the “pouch” of extra fabric means baby is not quite so mashed up against me which means…….no diaper compression wicking! Maybe this is just a problem for me, but all too often, in any carrier, there would be enough pressure against the diaper to make it leak on me. With better adjustibility, the Omni 360 feels so secure that I don’t feel the need to have him squashed against me so firmly.
Also, the zipper bag on the Omni 360 is attached with a thick vecro strap that you can easily remove while wearing the baby. While I love my original Ergobaby carrier, having a detachable bag is way more convenient than trying to rifle through a zipper pouch blindly since it is below baby’s rump.
