Four Months

four-months-baby-e

Four months old.

How has it been adjusting to baby number four? Four kids six and under?

Not bad actually. The baby is easy compared to having to run to two schools on opposite sides of town that have starting times within 10 minutes of each other.

Baby E is very much like my second child Wyn. He is built like her, long and lean. He is also a bit more high strung like her. Lucky and Mory were my laid back, easy babies. Wyn and E are more particular in what they like to keep them from fussing. Although, E is actually much easier than Wyn, since I can usually figure out how to console him. The bigger conundrum is winter. See, with an infant car seat and a toddler, there is no room in a shopping cart for the actual groceries. This was fine until recently since I could wrangle the baby into a baby carrier at the car and not bring in the car seat. With the subzero temps coming, this is not an option. Wrangling a baby while outside in -45 windchill is awful. So, I will be back to running errands in the middle of the night when my husband is home to be with the kids. Which is really no different than it was with previous kids. Now I just have more people trailing after me through the store.

We are also dealing with a growth spurt, so sleeping through the night is on hold, briefly. I imagine this is nature’s way of keeping us on our toes. Like hey, you just finished that ‘fourth trimester’ phase where you feel like a zombie and now the baby will sleep and you might feel almost human and…………………………….waaaaahhhhhhhh……….. up all night again. Gotcha!!!!

Although, we actually do get enough sleep now. Mostly because my husband has finally succumbed to the fact that we cannot not stay up past 9:30 pm anymore. Not if we want to feel human. It took until 35 for him to realize he is not superhuman and THANK GOD because I couldn’t take much more. So now we go to bed early and get up early and exercise and take our vitamins and act like boring responsible people because we have a baby and Lots O’ Kids. It is a relief since I was old and boring a long time ago and he finally caught up. which is maybe why Baby E is up all the time. He looks just like his dad, so maybe the party time personality is there too. I suspect a full night sleep might be 20 years off for me. Happy four months, E.
