Rennovation Clean Up: lt It Shine with LemiShine

So, eight weeks into our renovation project, we have a hit a bit if a snag. By snag, I mean my contractor has been MIA for a couple weeks. I really only need him to seal the new windows, paint and install some doors, and put in a light fixture I purchased several weeks ago. It can just be frustrating to be told something is a three week project only for two months to go by and no one is returning your calls. I have rooms piled with stuff, since the renovated rooms are still empty. I have dirt and grime covering every surface from construction dust and careless workmen. Not to mention, I need to finish some major home repair and organization before popping out a baby soon. It is a little stressful.

To combat the stagnant feeling, I took to organizing and cleaning what I can.

Our dining room is a home goods storage station. Our bedroom is a toy storage sorting station.

However, we can still deep clean a few areas. Lucky’s current/old room got a paint overhaul and we removed the old blinds that were installed between panes of glass. Those windows had 30 years of dead insects and grime stuffed between the blind panes and weather stripping. Not to mention mold. Lucky was harassing me to wash his windows for days after we dismantled the room, so we gave them a  good wipe down with Lemi Shine Glass & Surface Cleaner. Non-toxic and ammonia free makes this glass cleaner a nice smelling and fume-less experience.

(Always keep cleaning agents out of reach of children and closely supervise children if they help you clean.)

Our bathroom also had a ton of construction dust that somehow got into every nook and cranny despite not even being in the same room as the projects. Lemi Shine Tub & Tile cleaner to the rescue. I like that it is based on citrus extracts and non-toxic, since it is unlikely I managed to rinse away every spec of cleaner from the tub and toys. With Lemi Shine, I don’t really worry about trace amounts left behind when it is time for the little ones’ bath.

A funny thing about DIY, some people have the spirit, but not the skill or sense. lemishine 5The previous owners of our home installed a sink and garbage disposal in the kitchen that does not fit properly to allow for a high loop in the pipe to prevent back-up. So, we had an issue with the pipes backing up into the dishwasher and causing it all to flood down the wall into the basement. What was left was a dishwasher filled with really gross dishes, not to mention the dishwasher itself was filled with yucky sewer-y water. Needless to say, both the dishwasher and garbage disposal needed a thorough cleaning. Since the Lemi Shine cleaners are biodegradable and made in the USA, I don’t feel bad using what I would sometimes see as superfluous cleaning products. Hey, sometimes they end up not being so superfluous after all!

Of course, there is the actual renovation area to clean as well. The new windows have dust, fingerprints, tape residue, and who knows what else. The biggest mess was our laundry room, since it was next door to the new bedrooms and the workmen used the utility sink for everything. I really had to scrub the washer and dryer to get the thick grime off. (How old are my washer and utility tub, right?) I worry enough about off-gassing fumes from the paint and new carpet, at least I don’t need to worry too much about our cleaners.
