D-E-T-E-R-G-E-N-T
It has been a while since I yammered on about laundry detergent. I have five kinds sitting in my laundry room right now, and that is kind of pittily compared to what I often have going on next to my washing machine. Clearly this house move and pregnancy has destroyed my laundry mojo. Also, I moved into a house with a harvest gold washing machine from the 70’s, so I haven’t been experimenting with detergents lately. However, with a new baby coming in a couple weeks and the onslaught of cloth diapers, burp rags, and nursing pads, that come with her, I will once again need to step up my laundry game. So, lets discuss another detergent.
*review detergent c/o Attitude
Attitude.
It is free of 1,4-dioxane and ethylene oxide, made with renewable energy, Eco Logo certified, and they care.
It is a liquid detergent, and the scented Baby version, Sweet Lullaby is still cloth diaper safe. Yep. Attitude Little Ones in Sweet lullaby is hypoallergenic, enzyme free, optical brightener free, vegetable based, and carcinogen free, even from small byproducts.
Attitude Sweet Lullaby Ingredients:
Water, Anionic surfactant derived from coconut, Non-ionic surfactants derived from corn and coconut, Sodium citrate, Sodium gluconate, and Fragrance. The fragrance is from natural ingredients without CMR compounds.
One bottle offers 35 loads for $15.99, which seems a little high compared to regular commercial detergents. However, Attitude has a savings program that offers huge discounts and pays for itself fairly quickly. You pay a initial fee for whichever discount you want, and then you get that discount (20%-40%) on every purchase. If you purchase disposable diapers, wipes, and detergent through the site, that savings racks up quickly.
How well does it work?
Pretty well I say. It cleans as well as any other liquid detergent I have used in our hard water. Attitude is low sudsing, clean rinsing, and leaves no funky odor behind. Even the scent is very faint after a rinse. I have only used it on a few cloth diaper loads and it appears to get them clean enough. It would take at least a month of use for me to determine if there is build up occurring, so I must remember to come back and update. I use a 40+ year old top loader, and our water is not quite as hard here as at our last house, so your results may differ. Once this next baby is born, I will see if the Attitude does the job for lifting spit-up stains. it seems to do fine with poop stains, but then again, I am not very picky about our cloth diaper stains.
Overall, Attitude Little Ones in Sweet lullaby is a nice detergent for those parents who are concerned about carcinogenic ingredients in their household products. It doesn’t just stop at detergent though. Attitude has you covered when it comes to products that touch your skin. They offer bath & body products, cleaning products, and diapering supplies.
Thanks so much for this post. I am very selective about what detergent I use on baby clothes. The one I have been using just is not working well for us, but I have not found an alternative yet. I am going to try this and see how it works.
I have found it to work ok for baby clothes. I don’t feel it is strong enough for cloth diaper laundry though. The fragrance is very strong, so you might want the scent free.
