See now that right there is all I need to get this place into shape. Well, it would get the office in shape. I love white and aqua, plus it would lighten this space up significantly. See that down there? So much dark sage green! With dark tile. In a basement with lots of dark wood and very little natural light. So my goal is an office makeover. I am covering the faux wood trim with Behr Ultra Moon Rise and the walls with Behr Ultra Aqua Spray. I need a lot of inventory storage, so some IKEA shelving will be making an appearance, along with a large desk and a sewing station.
The FUG
That cabinet was a horrible makeshift wet bar (with no drain!) DIYed by some guy 40 years ago and then turned into some sort of closet. The guy was very anti-level and pro five inch construction nails. Ugh. The deconstruction has been a lot of work. However, a little bit of work should turn it into a great little photo corner.
One of the best parts about this house is how many opportunities it offers for specialized rooms. Now, don’t get me wrong. I don’t need a specified room for every hobby or activity. My whole life revolves around multi-use everything. I won’t even buy single purpose kitchen gadgets if a multi-use item exists. However, some things and specifically spaces, can offer a huge benefit when it comes to efficiency. I have tried my hand at running my own business a few times over the years and each time I was forced to operate that business out of a plastic tub. This was very inefficient and I likely could have gotten much further by now with a desk, and at least a shelf. One preference I had when house hunting was for a space to house a decent sized Office for myself. I say decent sized because I plan on storing and executing hobby materials there as well as files and business equipment.
So, this sage green monstrosity was my blank slate.
So far we primed and painted the trim, the faux wood paneling, and the walls. We still need to do another coat on the walls and I need to do a lot of touch up edging along the trim. While we made a lot of headway with removing a lot of broken blinds, light fixtures, and auxiliary heating units, there is still plenty of hardware that needs to go. I am hoping to remove some plywood doors from the cabinets and turn them into a usable workspace.
The white and blue already has made it look so much better and brighter. I am beyond excited! My goal is to be finished with this room by the time the baby arrives so that I can be organized enough to continue working without too many hiccups. Because working full time from home while juggling two toddlers and a newborn is going to bring hiccups.
