When you were pregnant with your first child, did you run out and buy all those giant tomes claiming to be the ultimate guide to raising babies? I will admit I bought one.  A fat one. And after glancing through it, dismissed it. Being the eldest child and working thousands of babysitting hours had taught me a thing or two. Mostly, I advocate going with your instincts. Unfortunately,  parents are taught in this day and age to go against instincts and common sense. You don’t need a giant tome of parenting secrets, but a small guide with actual useful Information would be nice. Dr. Carey’s First Year Baby Care Guide Book can fill that roll. With 120 pictures and concise information, it is a quick and easy guide for people dealing with the reality of a new baby.

Dr. Carey is a well known pediatrician in Ventura, California, and hosts the Dr. Carey’s Baby Care on CAPS-TV in Ventura and other public broadcasting stations nationwide.

Dr. Carey’s First Year Baby Care Guide Book is only 96 pages, which is nice since it can be referenced quickly and is not overwhelming.

My favorite parts of the book are the TMI areas like actual poop pictures for explaining what different textures and colors of feces means. Excellent! I see questions related to this in our parenting groups all the time! Another useful part is an actual visual of genital rash. Most of us are hesitant to post a diaper rash picture online to get advice for obvious reasons, so this resource is incredibly useful. I like that this book is short. It doesn’t spout off useless philosophies and opinions, just need to know facts and ways to deal with issues. It is a timeless resource, so it can still be relevant years down the road.
I am about to have my third child, so I tend to roll my eyes at most first year guides, but I can honestly say I Dr. Carey’s book can be useful for new parents and even seasoned caregivers.

Dr. Carey also has other products including stuffy nose kits, colic kits, and swaddle blankets. The swaddles are soft cotton flannel and are LARGE which is awesome for wrapping up baby. I love swaddling our big babies, so it is nice they are such a great size.
