I am not really a New Year’s resolution person. Last year I purposely wrote about it in early February, the time when most people are already giving up on their goals they resolved to do. I like to tackle my goal lists every day of the year. However, I do use the calender change to evaluate how I did and where I want to go. It just makes sense, since I am tackling inventory and business taxes at this time. This was a big year for our family. Wyn began sleeping through the night at least a few nights a week. We bought our first house and have endless improvement projects. We grew, acquired, and let go a whole bunch. One theme that ran all year for me though, was chaos. So as I look at my goals for this year, they revolve around one main vein.
Overall, get my life back together.
Get organized when it comes to business:
- get a filing cabinet
- set up a calendar for taxes, filing, and marketing deadlines
- update profiles and automate some order and email stuff
- focus on my strengths instead of what so-called experts tell me to focus on
Get organized in home and family:
- get baskets for counter tops. We have a large counter separating the living room and kitchen. It is constantly covered in crap. I want a large basket to set there and have a rule that anything we are tempted to toss on that counter, goes in the basket. Bills, junk mail, gloves, hats, random everything. Once a week, on Sundays, I will go through the box.
- get a white board for back room for messages and lists
- get pantry organized and stocked
- redo chore schedule. The chores get piled up way too often. The biggest hurdles are keeping the sink clean and folding laundry. I do around 12 loads a week due to diapers, cat barf, kid barf, spills, towels, bedding, workout clothes, and more. We also need more dressers since we have no where to put the clothes.
Create a space of my own:
I have a “sun room” with double doors off our living room. It is where I keep my desk and laptop, but that is it. I want to put my filing cabinet and craft dresser in there and turn it into MY room.
- stain my desk
- get filing cabinet
- create photo studio corner where my umbrellas can remain set up
- move craft dresser
- hang art
- set up mini office
- get rug
- get lamp
Last, but not least, regain health. My hip injury has been wearing on me. The chronic pain can get depressing. I ordered a foam roller to see if it helps with my hip flexor issue. I need to get to a point where I am not relying on so much ibuprofen!
So there we go. Instead of resolutions, I have concrete actions to achieve my goals. Once again, me lists are set. Do you break your goals down to small actions to help maintain focus? I find it to be very helpful.
