Convenient Snacking with Yummi Pouch

Once upon a time, not really that long ago,  my toddlers ate whatever food we placed in front of them. Broccoli, spinach, a medley of salads. I prided myself on the fact that my kids would eat their veggies and turn their noses up at junk food. Of course, those glory days are now over and the only veggies they eat are canned green beans, and even fruit is often rejected in favor of cheese. This is why I like to utilize smoothies on occasion. I can sneak protein powder and veggies into any smoothie and the kids suck them down. We used to keep some of those pureed fruit and veggie pouches in the stroller and diaper bag, but I stopped buying them because of the outrageous price.  Most of them at our grocery or big box store were over $2 each! Not to mention the throw-away pouches seemed wasteful and a bit confusing to recycle.
I wondered out loud when a reusable kit would come out. Obviously, it already existed, but I was clueless! Which is why I am happy to talk about Yummi Pouch.

Some of our favorite smoothies are:

I like buying a large jar of applesauce to save money and not deal with those individual cups. Now I can just add a few ounces to a Yummi Pouch and bring it with us. If you have young kids, you know how great a small snack can be at diffusing a would-be tantrum while running errands. While I don’t go out with the kids much in the cold of winter, we practically live out of our double jogger stroller in Summer. I like keeping my stroller loaded up with an entire day’s worth of food so that we can stay out all day at the parks, beaches, and playgrounds.

The six ounce pouches are great for purees for the kids. The 10 ounce pouch is a great smoothie pouch for me! It is also great for a post workout protein shake for muscle recovery.
You can get pretty creative. My kids like to eat refried beans and hot sauce out of their pouches, I kid you not. You could also put a frozen adult beverage in a pouch for camping if you were so inclined.

You can tell they are a hit by the zoned out expression on their faces. I swear I can never get one of those cute, smiley pictures when my kids are attacking food.

My only trouble with the pouches was I don’t have a funnel, so when pouring my puree into a pouch, I got some berry seeds stuck in the zipper, making it hard to zip. So I suggest using a funnel. Or, you could order the cool pitcher at Yummi Pouch that has a spout perfect for pouring.  You could use your immersion blender right in the pitcher!

Yummi Pouch pouches are BPA & Phthalate free, so they are perfectly safe. They can go in the freezer, so you could put a frozen pouch in your child’s lunch and it will be thawed by lunch.

Yummi Pouch comes in sizes 2.5 ounce, 6 ounce, and a 10 ounce sport pouch.
If you want to give them a try, a six pack of 6 ounce pouches is only $14.95, which is close to what I would pay for single use pouches at our local grocer. Why not save on money and trash by trying reusable?
