As a parent of two in diapers (yes, my three year old is taking a while to get with the program) I have encountered my fair share of diaper rash issues. I also admit to having A LOT of diaper creams. Different balms serve different purposes, and with cloth diapers, you need to be mindful of certain ingredients. I generally avoid synthetic ingredients, petroleum, and fish oils when choosing a diaper rash treatment, so when I had a chance to test out the new balm by Love Munchkin, I was all in!
* Love Munchkin is a line of natural skin care using real ingredients and they recently came out with a diaper balm worth talking about. Love Munchkin products are vegan, paraben free, and contained in BPA free packaging. Their current skin care collection includes belly oil, newborn & sensitive skin oils, and the Baby Butt Butter.
I began testing out their Baby Butt Butter several weeks back as a barrier cream. The shea butter is great a barrier balm to PREVENT irritation caused by ammonia and acid poop. The chamomile and calendula work well at lightly soothing mild irritation. I would suggest something a little stronger for the extreme diaper irritation that results in bleeding sores. However, with liberal use of a products like Baby Butt Butter, you should be able to mostly avoid that kind of irritation in the first place.
All of the ingredients in Love Munchkin Baby Butt Butter are natural and cloth diaper safe. As with all natural body products, you should store them in a cool place out of sunshine and discard them within a year.
Love Munchkin Baby Butt Butter Ingredients:
- Unrefined organic shea butter
- Almond oil
- Calendula oil
- Vitamin E oil
- High altitude lavender
- German chamomile
Without petroleum, mineral oils or fish oils, this diaper balm should not cause any type of repelling issues with your cloth diapers, or even with a paper diaper. As always, if you are using any kind of diaper cream DAILY, I would recommend washing diapers in hot water to ensure the butter washes out completely.
The Baby Butt Butter has a very mild scent from the essential oils and creates a fairly thick and substantial layer on the skin. After playing around with it for a few different uses, I have found it to be an awesome moisturizer for my dry face! As many of you with new babies know, those first several months leave you depleted of estrogen and it really leaves your skin pretty lackluster. (Although I think my issue is age, sigh.) Well, this butter is great for a nourishing night time moisturizer. I imagine it would also be night on a sunburn and chapped winter cheeks. I have been putting it on my kids’ eczema at night, although Love Munchkin also has a body oil formulated for eczema.
The 4 oz. jar of Love Munchkin Baby Butt Butter is large and lasts a long time. At only $10, it is a pretty good deal compared to other natural diaper balms. And if you decide to use it as a beauty cream, it is down right cheap.

I love Earth Mama Angel Baby, but we’re low and I was thinking of trying other brands just to get a better idea of what is truly best. Thanks for bringing this to my attention!
