It’s Summer and hot, hot, hot! Part of those warm rays from the sun includes dangerous UV exposure and risk of sunburn. I can tell you I have a tough time finding affordable all natural sunscreen, so I am pleased to write about BALM! Baby SUN! Natural Sun Screen. Paba free, paraben free, and made with natural ingredients, BALM! Baby SUN! Natural Sun Screen is pretty awesome. It contains a high concentration of zinc oxide which not only blocks the sun, but also works great at clearing up redness and soothing diaper rash.
BALM! Baby SUN! Natural SunScreen Ingredients: Olive oil, calendula extract, shea butter, coconut oil, macadamia nut oil, zinc oxide, kukui nut oil, sesame seed oil, candelilla wax, St. John’s wort extract, chickweed extract, neem oil, vitamin e T-50, orange essential oil, lavender essential oil, tea tree essential oil.
BALM! Baby SUN! Natural SunScreen is a light grey color and a bit gritty at first. I rubbed it between my hands to mix it well before applying. The wax makes it stay put in water, and the oils make it spread very smoothly. The gritty texture is a GOOD thing! Recent research has shown that nano-particles of zinc oxide can become carcinogenic when they are activated by UV rays and permeate the skin layer. Using large particle zinc oxide is much safer. So keep in mind that uglier sunscreen is better for you!
I use this sunscreen on my six month old without any qualms. My stroller has a huge canopy so usually only my kids’ feet and ankles are exposed for long periods. BALM! Baby SUN! Natural Sun Screen glides on and is not greasy feeling. Plus, it actually works. I rubbed a small circle on my shoulder and went out by the lake for two hours. The spot with this sunscreen stayed lighter than the rest of my shoulder. I couldn’t get a good picture, but it was noticeable.
I also used it as a diaper rash cream with my cloth diapers without any issues. The little bit of wax did not stay in the fabric after washing in hot water, and the zinc is great at reducing a red bum. I love the light scent of this cream as well. It does not smell like sunscreen or diaper rash cream.
I generally do not use much sunscreen on myself or my kids since we try to get healthy amounts of exposure for vitamin D synthesis and make sure to eat foods that help fight sun damage. However, for those times we do use it, I definitely prefer a more natural product like BALM! Baby SUN! Natural Sun Screen.
