Made with sustainable and renewable bamboo and natural botanicals, Bum Boosa products are a great green alternative to the standard. Bum Boosa brand products include baby wipes, diaper rash cream, bathroom tissue, and clothing made from bamboo.
Bamboo grows quickly and with little maintenance, making it an ideal source of fibers for pulping and turning into paper and fabric. Bum Boosa® bamboo products also do not contain harsh chemicals or dangerous ingredients like the parabens and sulfates we often find in wipes and ointments. Not only that, but Bum Boosa® plants a tree for every package sold, and their wipes are made in a wind powered plant!
Bum Boosa® recently sent me their Baby Wipes and Bamboo Diaper Rash Ointment to review.
Now, we mostly use cloth wipes in our household, but I will be the first to admit that sometimes it can be a pain to drag around extra cloths and a wet bag for them if I am trying to remember to pack everything in the stroller. I have been looking around at some disposable wipes and usually hate the ingredients I see. I am not a purist. I simply do the best I can while trying to stay sane. So finding a disposable baby wipe with far less offensive ingredients, and from sustainable materials is a HUGE deal to me! I am lucky enough to not only get to review Bum Boosa® wipes, but I also really like them.
First of all, they contain no alcohol, parabens, or sulfates, the three big bad guys of disposable wipes and many hygiene products.
Ingredients:
Purified Artesian Aquifer Water
Polysorbate 20 (an emulsifier to ensure oils and water are mixed)
Vegetable Glycerin
Lavandula augusttifolia (Lavender) essential oil
Citrus sinensis (Sweet Orange) essential oil
Aloe Barbadensis (Organic Aloe Vera) Leaf
Calendula extract
Tocopherol Acetate (Vitamin E)
Potassium Sorbate – food grade preservative
Sodium Benzoate – food grade preservative
Citric Acid – ensures pH balance/stability
Your baby can grab a wipe and not get sick from it. I am not saying I give my kids wipes to eat, but my toddler sticks everything in his mouth. The lavender and sweet orange oils have antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. Plus, they smell fresh and nice.
The packaging is convenient since it has a pop top that you can just flip open and snap shut. The bag acts as the dispenser, so you don’t need to have any of those wasteful disposable wipes boxes laying around. (There are really only so many ways to re-purpose them!)
The Bum Boosa® baby wipes are thin, but the texture is less smooth and a little more grabby than most big brands of wipes, so I am actually able to use fewer wipes for cleanup. I can often get away with one for a soiled diaper change!
I really like the Bum Boosa® wipes for when I want disposable wipes. The ingredients do not disturb me, and I love that bamboo is an easily renewable resource. I find the snap top function on the package to be really convenient. I put the pack of wipes in my jogger stroller for our four hour outings around the lake trails in my city. Not only is it nice to not lug around poopy wipes every single time since I can throw these away and they biodegrade quickly, but they are great when you are stuck using a port-a-potty. I really dislike those hand sanitizer dispensers in port-a-potties. The sanitizer smells bad, and leaves a film on my hands that feels worse than the idea of not washing at all. I like having these wipes with so I can just wipes my hands down with them. They leave a light, pleasant scent and never leave a greasy filmy feeling on my skin. Better yet, Mr.JAC hates the smell of disposable wipes, but Bum Boosa® wipes do not bother him. So, I get a bonus of not hearing my husband complain!
I also received a jar of the Bum Boosa® Diaper Rash Ointment for review. Not only does it work, but it is cloth diaper safe!
Ingredients: Vitis Vinifera (Grapeseed Oil), Beeswax, Zinc oxide, Lavandula Augustifolia (Lavender Essential Oil), Bambusa glaucescens (Bamboo powder), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Organic Rosa Canina (Rosehip Seed Oil), Organic Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba Oil), Olea Europaea (Olive Oil), Retinyl Palmitate (Vitamin A), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree Essential Oil), Matricaria Recutita (Chamomile Essential Oil), Organic Symphytum Officinale (Comfrey), Organic Calendula Officinalis (Calendula), Sodium Bicarbonate.
Yes, zinc oxide of fine with your cloth diapers. The big no-nos in cloth diapering are synthetic oils like mineral oil, and fish oils. Those are the things that cause repelling in your diapers.
Bum Boosa® Diaper Rash Ointment contains several essential oils known for soothing, healing and anti-fungal properties. The zinc really helps calm redness. If I need a serious diaper cream, I prefer ones with zinc, instead of messing around for weeks with weaker formulas. I still love my other creams for prevention though.
Bum Boosa® Diaper Rash Ointment isn’t greasy feeling, but it still makes a nice barrier for acidic baby poop or irritation from wetness. Plus, the jar is 4oz which is pretty big for a diaper rash cream! I used it on my son’s red bottom after he ate some things that did not agree with him. But, it also worked nicely for soothing his eczema on a hot day. I even like it for my face! The scent is very light and does not bother my nose or eyes so I tried it for dry skin on my upper cheeks. I figure if women are using hemorrhoid cream on their puffy eyes, I can use diaper rash cream on my scaly cheeks. The beeswax also helps it stay in a solid form on warm days, which is nice if it is in the diaper bag and is not perfectly upright.
Overall, I really like Bum Boosa products and would recommend them to Eco-conscious parents or anyone looking for greener products that don’t break the bank. I am interested in their toilet tissue. It does not cost any more than what I pay for a bigger brand at my local grocery store.
*I received these particular products for reviewing purposes. I was not otherwise compensated and all opinions are my own.
