One issue I have always had with dishwashers is they never seemed to get my dishes CLEAN. Well, it turns out I just had only had crappy dishwashers. We now have a new machine and I love how clean my dishes come out. However, I am not a huge fan of turning a blind eye to the “greeness” of my dish detergent. When we moved in, my husband picked up a tub of whatever they had at Costco, and it has been bothering me ever since.
Rockin’ Green, a popular laundry detergent brand in our cloth diapering community, also has a line of cleaning products and they added an Auto Dish Detergent this year. Dish detergents in the past has phosphates in them which made for crystal clear glasses, but it was not very safe or environmentally friendly. With changes to dish detergent formulas, it can sometimes be difficult to get your cloudy dishes clean looking. Well, Rockin’ Green Auto Dish Detergent has been formulated with their Grunge Core Technology to eliminate buildup, cloudy glasses, and stuck on grease with the use of fillers, phosphates, or dyes.
I will admit, I was a bit skeptical. This dish detergent claimed to work great in hard water, but I have had my fair share of hard water problems. Rockin’ Green suggests one to two tablespoons of detergent for a standard dish load. Since our water practically has rocks in it, I opted for the full two tablespoons. I was pleasantly surprised to have clear glasses and mason jars without a rinse aide. The Rockin’ Green Dish Detergent worked just as well as my ‘other brand’ detergent, but without all those mystery chemicals and additives. It most definitely works better than my own homemade dishwasher detergent. (That was a nightmare.) I only wish it was a little cheaper since we need the full two scoops with our super hard water.

- sodium percarbonate
- sodium silicate
- natural chelating agents
- sodium sulfate
- biodegradable surfactants
- plant derived enzymes
- natural fragrance oil.
The scent is light and lemony. Even though it is non-toxic, it will make you sick if swallowed, so keep it far away from the kids. As far as my three year old is concerned, it looks like a giant bag of lick-m-aide.
