Homemade Lavender Coconut Sugar Scrub

Dry winter skin, or patchy summer skin is a pain. Sometimes literally. In summer, my feet get dry and cracked from sandal wear and in winter my skin screams from being so dry and itchy. I am big on exfoliating. I find my face is much less flaky with a good sugar scrub three times per week. However, some of those lovely scented scrubs on the market are stupid expensive for the short time the tube or jar lasts. So, I’m into making my own. I don’t need fancy botanicals, so I go for an easy mixture of things I always have in my cabinets. This way , it is not only nontoxic, but safe enough to eat!

Homemade Lavender Coconut Sugar Scrub

1 1/2 cup white sugar
1/3 cup olive oil
1/4 cup virgin coconut oil
20 drops Lavender essential oil

If coconut oil is solid, gently warm in a water bath or even in the sun first. Mix olive oil, coconut oil, and lavender essential oil together. Mix in sugar.
Keep in a lidded jar, in a cool, dark place. When you’re in the shower scoop out a small handful for a full body exfoliation! This is great right before shaving and can reduce ingrown hairs. Always wait a couple days after a wax before exfoliating a waxed area. since the coconut oil and olive oil act as carrier oils, you can use several different essential oils other than lavender.
