August? When did that happen? Didn’t summer finally start five minutes ago? I suppose this may be the last summery smoothie recipe of the season. Soon, we are moving past cherries and berries, and onto pumpkin and apple everything.
We better use up that pile of cherries and pears ripening on the kitchen counter!!
I know I’m not the only parent trying to get my kids to eat a little protein. I have one kid with texture issues, another who hates dairy, and another hating on eggs and meat. I’m no stranger to trying to keep their meals balanced and sane. Which is why I sometimes just pick the easy path with a smoothie. It’s easy to get a serving of protein in the kids via pea protein powder or whey, if I just put it in the blender with veggies and fruit.
Cherry Peary Protein Smoothie
- 1 small pear diced
- 1 cup pitted halved fresh cherries
- 1 cup almond milk
- 1 1/2 scoops protein powder of choice
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
I use an immersion blender to whip it up and pour into cups. This makes two decent sized servings. The lime juice adds the right tartness. I would suggest a whey protein with this one since pear or cherry don’t work well to cover the grittiness of pea or rice protein.
