Now that my toddlers are growing into rambunctious kids, they have developed appetites that could rival professional athletes. This can be a challenge when it comes to messes, packaging, and even novelty. Unless we are talking about seasonal fruit like berries, my kids can get bored. I need to shake it up. This is why I like to utilize smoothies on occasion. The kids like the novelty of them since we don’t do juice at our house, and I can sneak protein powder and veggies into any smoothie and the kids suck them down. We used to keep some of those pureed fruit and veggie pouches in the stroller and diaper bag, but I stopped buying them because of the outrageous price.  Not to mention the throw-away pouches seemed wasteful and a bit confusing to recycle. Which is why I am happy to talk about Yummi Pouch.

Yummi Pouch is a reusable, refillable snack pouch created by a family looking for alternatives. Yummi Pouch comes in a variety of sizes and kits making snack time easy, sustainable, and economical. Yummi Pouches are durable so they can be used again and again. They are even dishwasher safe! Each pouch has a capped spout for easy eating or pouring, and a wide zippered opening for filling it with your smoothies and purees.
If you place them in the top rack of your dishwasher,  I recommend propping them open with  something like a baby spoon. Although a plastic bangle bracelet works perfectly. What? You don’t have random bangles lying around your kitchen?

I like buying a large jar of applesauce or container of yogurt to save money and not deal with those individual cups. Now I can just add a few ounces to a Yummi Pouch and bring it with us. If you have young kids, you know how great a small snack can be at diffusing a would-be tantrum while running errands. We practically live out of our double jogger stroller in Summer, so I like keeping my bag loaded up with a day’s worth of food so that we can stay out all day at the parks, beaches, and playgrounds. My son is starting preschool this September,  so I plan on bringing a couple pouches for when we pick him up after class and as a peacekeeper for running errands with my two year old daughter. You can freeze them so that they remain cool until you are ready for them! I am even thinking I might be snacking from them more myself when cluster-feeding our new baby soon.

Yummi Pouch items don’t need to be just for kids. The 10 ounce pouch can carry a nice smoothie, frappuccino, or even a frozen adult beverage.  Heck, you could fill a pouch with pate for a picnic and squeeze it onto crackers. The possibilities are endless.

I do suggest using a funnel when filling your pouches or, you could order the cool pitcher at Yummi Pouch that has a spout perfect for pouring.

Yummi Pouch pouches are BPA & Phthalate free, so they are perfectly safe. They can go in the freezer, so you could put a frozen pouch in your child’s lunch and it will be thawed by lunch. A kit also comes with an insulated Velcro pocket pack that can provide extra protection against hot weather. Yummi Pouch comes in sizes 2.5 ounce, 6 ounce, and a 10 ounce sport pouch. If you want to give them a try, a six pack of 6 ounce pouches is only $14.95, which is close to what I would pay for single use pouches at our local grocer.
