Did you know most commercial “soap” bars sitting on the shelves of your grocery or big box store are not really soap? There is a reason the packaging never says soap bar and instead says “cleansing bar” or “beauty bar”. These are actually detergent bars full of a variety of mystery ingredients you slather all over your body’s largest organ, your skin!
I’ve had eczema most of my life, as does my son. While diet can help control it, flare ups happen and those commercial “beauty” bars can seriously aggravate our skin. It is often painful and leaves the skin red and angry looking. I started making my own soap over 12 years ago and have had a love of REAL soap ever since. The variety of scents and therapeutic soaps you can create makes for a very addictive hobby! I haven’t been able to make any fresh batches of my own soap recently so I gave been trying out some of the awesome natural soaps available from other soap lovers.
Australian Soap is a REAL soap bar with shea butter, natural ingredients and nourishing vegetable based oils. Australian Soap has been supplying natural soaps to Australia and New Zealand for years and they recently opened up distribution in the U.S.!
I currently have the Lemon Myrtle, French Pear, and Wild Honeysuckle soap bars from Australian Soap and they are definitely superb soap bars!
Each soap has a base ingredient formula of:
Sustainable palm oil, palm kernel oil, certified organic shea butter, vegetable glycerin, sodium chloride, water, preservative, fragrance, organic color pigments and may contain olive oil, oatmeal, flowers, honey, myrtle leaves, tea tree oil, essential oils, milk, grape seed oil, vanilla beans, lemon oil, mango butter, cocoa butter, jojoba, vitamin E, and other natural ingredients.
Scents vary based on essentials and added fragrance.
These natural soaps are made with triple milled, also known as French milled, oils which give the bars a high glycerin content. The high glycerin percentage makes the soaps long lasting and gives them extra cleaning power. The Lemon Myrtle has a vibrant citrus scent that is perfect for a morning pick-me-up. the wild Honeysuckle is delicious smelling and temps me into using a shaving of it for the cloth wipe solution.
You can purchase Australian Soap Natural Soap bars either wrapped in plastic with an ingredient label for $3.95, or save a little green and go green with an unwrapped bar for $3.00. The bars are only 3.5oz, which is why they are a little cheaper than some other soaps out there. I like the smaller bars since it means I can try more scents without committing to a large bar, if I end up not loving it.
